The cave, known as “Chonos” (“Funnel”), is in the Spilios area, 600 m NW of the village of Sarchos in Kroussonas Municipality.
Its semicircular entrance, at an altitude of 276m, is 4.50 m wide. 3 m high and 5 m long.
Its 1,700 metres of passages make the Chonos of Sarchos an impressively large cave, of small aesthetic value but huge speleological interest and great hydrological value.
In effect, Sarchos Cave is an active underground river running through a series of chambers and wide corridors angled steeply downwards, with little decoration. At times of heavy rainfall the cave floods and the water runs out of its mouth.
